More Sharia

BBC:

Lord Phillips, the most senior judge in England and Wales, said there was no reason sharia law’s principles could not be used in mediation

Lord Phillips has given a speech to a Muslim centre in Whitechapel that has reaffirmed what Dr Rowan Williams said in February.

What I said then was:

I cannot see any law being enacted in this day and age that would exempt certain groups of people from receiving various human rights…

Although, with hindsight I may still be wrong

Not sure if you know, but the Courts already enforce Jewish religious laws, amongst others, if both Parties agree to it. This is the same situation.

[Personally, I don’t think the courts should enforce any religious-based laws. However, if the people involved want to do it – and nobody else is harmed by it – let them do it…]

I did already know. I think I may have mentioned it in my post I linked to. Although that post has some appalling wording in it.

As you confirm, the courts will enforce Jewish laws, if both parties agree to it, but this is only for civil laws, not criminal.
My understanding is that anyone can use independent mediation to solve civil disputes, not just have the dispute taken through the official courts, and have them legally binding.

Part of the point with this post was that previously I couldn’t see the gov. removing the rights of a group of people, which is what the part of what the upraor was about with Rowan Williams speech about Sharia, but now Harriot Harmans’ Equality Bill (or whatever it is called) would remove the right of white males to sue for discrimination in certain circumstances.

(I don’t give a toss if it’s religious laws or not as long as both sides consent to it. Ensurin gthat consent is freely given is another matter)
