Schillings are back!
This time on behalf Iraq mercenary Tim Spicer. They have reason to believe that that horrible man Craig Murray is saying naughty things about their lovely client, who is such a sensitive soul and needs to be protected.
Schillings want to protect little Timmy so much that they are they are getting in early before they even know for sure if Timmy is featured in the book. Craig is also speaking at an event, which they also warn about mentioning anything horrible about the delicate flower that is ex-army officer Spicer.
The letter that Schillings sent to Craig is also copyrighted. Presumably to try and stop what has started to happen – the widespread publication of this little fishing expedition.
To me, what schillings has done is take craig round the back of the bike sheds, grabbed him by the collars and pinned him against the wall whilst menacingly promising to beat the crap out of craig if he tells teacher about Tims’ naughtiness.
For the same reason as Tim, I have reproduced the letter in full on my old blog which is hosted outside the UK (link) or you can download the .pdf document from craigs site (link).

Right. Never mind all the bollox about whether Harrys’ Place is a Zionist mouthpiece or a bastion against anti-semitism, whether you agree with their views or you don’t.
Harrys’ Place has received a solicitors letter about one of his posts that would seem to be trying to use the UKs’ unfair libel laws, when David T has done everything right with regards to corrections.
Support is required, it could be you next, mister blogger.
As usual Unity has dug a little deeper.

I’ve seen this (from Mike Butcher) before and thought I’d done a post on it, but can’t find it now.
So more for my benefit than anyone elses, here it is again, and so I can find it again easily I’ll put a link in the sidebar.

Nothing like upholding standards. If you start letting standards slide, god knows where we’ll end up.
Iain makes a point, a valid one, about Nadine Dorries sounding off about Catherine Tates’ Christmas special and it being inapropriate for a family audience, even though it was shown at 10:30 and was nothing unexpected from Catherine (so I’m told, I don’t actually think Catherine is funny, so didn’t watch).
But I think that Nadine should also keep to certain standards herself, like apologising for or retracting/correcting false accusations.
After all, if politicians can’t keep certain standards what hope has the rest of us?

MP Richard Bacon of the public accounts commitee into the privatisation of the Defence Evaluation and Research Agency (DERA, which became QinetiQ) questions Trevor Woolley of the MOD:
Bacon: “Mr Woolley, are you a chartered accountant?”
Woolley: “I am not.”
Bacon: “Are you a qualified financial person of any kind? Do you have any financial qualifications?”
Woolley: “I do not have financial qualifications.”
Bacon: “What is your job?”
Woolley: “I am the finance director of the Ministry of Defence.”

Re: The discs of personal information of 25 million people that the fuckwits in the government lost.
The Daily Politics 21/11/07
watch the video.
At 9:20 Andrew Neil asks Nick what the mood is in government.
Nick answers that it is glum, and after some preamble he say ‘but a senior figure in government said (and all this is paraphrased) ‘it’s not like Westland, or the Conservatives disaster in 92, with black Monday, the miners, ministers found in bed, corruption etc’, to which Nick adds, ‘and I think that’s right’
All those things that happened before never left 25,000,000 people open to identity theft, that’s a completly different scale to a little bit of corruption, or sticking the junior minister in the oppositions cabinet.
So just fuck right off, I’m trying to consolidate my labels and you’ve gone and made me add another now, just for you.
Afterthought: The Daily Politics is a daily show (obviously) so the link might not work after tomorrows show. If it doesn’t, you’ll just have to take my word for it.
Update 22/11/07: Link disabled as the video it points to is the most recent one.

Who’s the odd on out?
Craig Murray.
Tim Ireland.
Alisher Usmanov.
Bob Piper.
Boris Johnson.
Clive (of The UK Today blog)
Well, Craig Murray is the ex-ambassador to Uzbekistan, and a political blogger, whose blog has been pulled.
Tim Ireland is a political blogger and activist amongst other things whose blog has been pulled.
Bob Piper is a Labour councillor for Sandwell and a political blogger.
Boris Johnson was the Conservative MP for Henley and is now hoping to be Mayor of London, and also is a political blogger whose blog has been pulled.
Clive is also political blogger, whose blog has also been pulled.
That just leaves Alisher. He hasn’t had the plug pulled on his blog by his lawyers. His lawyers have been doing the pulling.
Alisher has not the best of reputations and his lawyers, Schillings, are trying to stop this reputation from following him all the way from Uzbekistan as he tries to buy Arsenal.
Too late!!
I don’t really give a toss about football and footballers, but this isn’t about football anymore. It’s about freedom of speech.
You see, Craig Murray, in his capacity as ambassador to Uzbekistan has heard of Mr Usmanov on more than one occasion, posted on his blog an article about Alisher that wasn’t very flattering to say the least. Parts of this was then reposted on Tim’s Bloggerheads site, and blogged about on others.
Legal letters were sent, posts, er, posted and eventually (most of) the articles were removed or changed to be not quite so offensive to the delicate Uzbeki flower that is Alisher pending othe rlegal action etc, as is normally the case.
But then from yesterday, all the sites above, and a couple of others (i think) just disappeared.
Where did they go?
Obsolete has the answer and some background:
Alisher Usmanov and his shower of lackeying legal cunts, Schillings, have finally pulled off a very pyrrhic victory. Despite comprehensively failing to remove Craig Murray’s original blog post about Usmanov, which is still around if you know where to look, they’ve managed to spook Tim Ireland’s webhost so much that they’ve pulled the plug on Tim and Clive’s cluster of sites, also including Bob Piper, Boris Johnson and Craig Murray’s blogs.
See the problem?
At the most only the relevant pages should’ve been taken down, but the host shat themselves and unplugged the server which them effected people that are completely uninvolved. That is too much. Once again money shuts up free speech.
Someones gonna be really annoyed now.
Go to Chicken Yoghurt, as that seems to be the rallying point with links to lots of background info.
Update: If you want to know exactly what all the fuss is about and why Mr Usmanov is so upset and trying to get everyone to forget about his past, there is a blog called Alisher Usmanov. Well worth a read.
As it’s hosted bby blogger in the USA, there is not a lot that the Jolly Fat Guy can do.
There is no way he can win this. If he could, don’t you think he would’ve sued Craig by now…?
And another:

“It’s wrong to refer to the deductions as ‘bed and breakfast’ as they are made in respect of the costs an individual would have had to pay out of their net income on things such as a mortgage or rent.”
Said a Ministry Of Justice statement.
This refers to Warren Blackwell, who was imprisoned for three and a half years for a crime he didn’t commit and is about the compensation he is going to receive, thought to be about £100k, which will be deducted almost £7000 for expenses he would’ve saved on, stuff like rent and food, whilst in prison.
Did you notice the Doublespeak that goes with the Orwellian name of Ministry of Justice:
“…wrong to refer to the deductions as ‘Bed & Breakfast’
“…would have to pay…such things as a mortgage or rent”
The Ministry of Justice has done an assessment and come to this figure, and will make the deduction because the compensation is “to put an individual back into the financial position they would have been in but for the miscarriage of justice, but not to a better position.”
Now, I do not know Warren, so I don’t know whether he was employed or not or what his finances were when he went into prison, but I do know that he is married and has a 7 year old son. His wife has still had to pay a mortgage/rent, that doesn’t reduce when one less person is living there. How could the MoJ predict what Warrens employment status could’ve been during those 3.5 years of imprisonment? Three and a half years is a long time, most people do not know if they will still be with the same company in three and a half years time, or unemployed, etc so how the bloody hell is the Govt. supposed to know?
Mr Blackwell couldn’t have been in prison, and yet he is having to reimburse the Govt. for his stay. The people who put themselves in prison by committing crimes do not have to pay a thing. If that is the way the Govt. wants to go, why not introduce two new schemes, Pay as You Go for occasional sinners, who will have a short stay every few years and Pay Monthly for the biggies that do years.
There is also no mention of anything to compensate Warren for missing out on three and a half years of his son growing up, who was 3 when Warren went into prison, and is now 7. Those years can never be replaced or returned and children change so quickly at that age that money cannot ever help to undo the loss, but it would be a gesture.
On a related note, Mr Blackwells accuser remains anonymous and has a history of falsely accusing men:
Has made at least five other fake allegations of sexual and physical assault to police in three separate forces.
Was married twice and made false allegations against both husbands – one of whom was a policeman.
Once accused her own father of sexual assault, but police concluded she had made it up.
Accused a boy of rape when she was a teenager, only for a doctor to discover she was still a virgin.
The CCRC concluded that in the case of Mr Blackwell, she had “lied about the assault and was not attacked at all, her injuries being self-inflicted”.
Whilst this lady obviously has some mental problems, and Warrens has had a (relatively) good outcome, it is often not the case and the man has his life ruined and the woman remains anonymous.
