Without wishing to start up the discussion/battle from last month about Iains’ and Pauls’ stats (from Tims’ posts here and here with the bulk of the discussion here @ Devils Kitchen), I spotted that Iain is trying not to kick it off again too in his April statporn* post:
After all the froth created by blogging traffic figures last month, let me now be clear where I stand. This may be boring to most but it is important to get it on the record. Up until recently I used a stats tracking package called…
he then explains what the various metrics mean.
Then unfortunatley opens the next paragraph with:
That’s the factual bit out of the way…
I laughed anyway.
*I’m not quite sure what it says about my thought process, but everytime i read ‘statporn’, I read it as ‘strapon’…

A little quiz. What’s this about?
8th May 1978:
1) I didn’t receive the DEC message, but I can’t imagine I would
have been bothered if I have. I get tons of uninteresting mail,
and system announcements about babies born, etc. At least a
demo MIGHT have been interesting.
9th May 1978:
Well, Geoff forwarded me a copy of the DEC message, and I eat my
words. I sure would have minded it! Nobody should be allowed
to send a message with a header that long, no matter what it is
about.

Bloody hell! What’s going on? An Isreali soldier, convicted of killing a Palestinian.
ei:
On 28 April, Israel’s Jerusalem District Court sentenced border policeman Yanai Lazla to six years’ imprisonment for the killing, in 2002, of ‘Amran Abu Hamdiya, 18, from the West Bank town of Hebron. Lazla and three other policemen threw Abu Hamdiya from a jeep moving at high speed after they had abducted, beaten and abused him. His head struck the pavement with great force, killing him. The policemen also abused other Palestinians in Hebron. The entire affair was exposed by B’Tselem and the Palestinian human rights organization al-Haq

The Reg:
Virgin Media today sought to publicly clarify its relationship with Phorm, amid concerns that spin from the controversial ISP adware company has worried many of its customers.
Virgin Media has extensively rewritten information on its website about the “Webwise” advertising targeting system to make it clear that it has not agreed to deploy or adopt the system. The newly spelled-out position runs contrary to repeated Phorm press releases and statements made by its executives.
Phorm’s share price has been battered by the two-month storm over its history, technology, behaviour and business model.

BBC:
Prime Minister Gordon Brown has said he wants to “send a message” to youngsters that using cannabis is “unacceptable”.
Mr Brown, who is examining a report on potentially tightening the law, said he was worried about the “more lethal” use of skunk – a strong form of the drug. The Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs, is expected to say cannabis should remain a Class C drug.
But Mr Brown told GMTV: “We really have got to send out a message to young people – this is not acceptable.”
Just a couple of things here:

What must it be like to be on your guard all the time, being carefull about what you say, where you say it and who you say it to.
It can’t be easy, can it?
It’s one thing dropping yourself in it by whispering sweet nothings in the ear of the president of the USA with your microphone still open, but when friends publish a private conversation in their diaries…
It’s a wonder that all these MP’s and the like are mad with paranoia not knowing who they can trust.
Are the toilet cubicles all full, not with gentlemen crapping but furtively jotting down exchanges they’ve had with people so they don’t forget them that night when writing to ‘Dear Diary…’.
No wonder the public don’t trust these people when they can’t even trust each other.
